Landing that job interview -Resume tips

Are you having trouble applying for numerous jobs and never getting a call back?

Picture
Many hiring managers may never see your resume. Companies are using applicant tracking systems (ATS) to scan resumes for keywords. If the company doesn't use ATS, according to a study by TheLadders, the average recruiter spends six seconds scanning a resume before deciding whether or not to pursue an applicant. 6 seconds!! So If your resume doesn't match what the companies are looking for, you resume could be tossed away and never looked at.

Resume dos and don'ts

  • So many times people just list a paragraph of generic skills that many recruiters see over and over again. When listing your skills, write a detailed description of where and how you obtained each skill and experience. When listing skills, make sure they are not generic and instead specific to the job you are applying for.
  • Don't create a generic resume to use for all job applications. Employers like to find prospects that genuinely want to work for their company. A generic resume appears as though the applicant has applied to a mass number of companies and doesn't really care what particular company they want to work for. Customize your resume for each job you apply for and emphasize the specific skills and experiences called for the job description.
  • Did you know that over 60% of resumes are being tossed because of how they are formatted?
Do not try to make your resume all fancy using extra graphics or fonts. Many of the graphics can not be downloaded
when recruiters pull your resume. So to prevent your resume from being discarded, omit creating

fancy resumes and use simple fonts.

FASHION DO'S AND DON'T

8/19/2014

Don't pull up your stockings in public. Do wear color near your face. Do soften the hard lines of a suit with a lace top underneath. Don't wear sweaters so long that they make you look short. Do borrow your husband's clothes. Don't wear acid-washed jeans. Cropped pants can make you look shorter. Do wear a hipslip or minimizer under tight clothes. Do have a stash of basics on hand: T-shirts, leggings, black socks and tights. Patterned leggings can make legs look heavier. Monochromatic outfits are one of the best slimming secrets there is. Don't overaccessorize.

Lies, Lies, Lies * Nice girls don't wear white after Labor Day. * You shouldn't wear suede shoes in summer or patent leather in winter. * Handbags have to match your outfit. * Black is boring. * If you wear two pieces that are both navy, the colors have to match. (It's all but impossible.) Elements of Style

Do...
* Try something that's "not you" once in a while.
* Adapt trends so that they work for you--and adapt is the key word
here. A plaid minikilt isn't for everyone, for example. But if you love
the look, try a longer plaid skirt.
* Hold on to a few of your favorite outdated pieces. You never know!
* Add a couple of stylish, inexpensive things to your wardrobe each season.

10 Must-Haves For Fall
(To Buy or Dig Out from Your Closet)

1.     White blouse
2.     One perfect dress
3.     A pleated or A-line skirt
4.     Boots--tall or short
5.     A mohair sweater--yes, they're back
6.     Anything plaid
7.     A pea coat in navy or black
8.     A short, fitted blazer or a long, tailored style
9.     Tapered trousers
10.   Pretty pastels--a jacket, sweater, skirt or all of the above

Personal Development AND EMPOWERMENT

Personal development is a lifelong process. It’s a way for people to assess their skills and qualities, consider their aims in life and set goals in order to realise and maximise their potential.

This page helps you to identify the skills you need to set life goals which can enhance your employability prospects, raise your confidence and lead to a more fulfilling, higher quality life. Plan to make relevant, positive and effective life choices and decisions for your future to enable personal empowerment.

Practical Steps to Personal DevelopmentPractical steps can be taken to enhance personal development, including:

  • Organising your time.
  • Producing a personal CV or résumé.
  • Undertaking a skills appraisal.
  • Looking at your transferable skills.
  • Overcoming barriers to learning a new skill.
What is Personal Empowerment?

At a basic level, the term 'empowerment' simply means 'becoming powerful'.  Building personal empowerment involves reflecting on our personal values, skills and goals and being prepared to adjust our behaviour in order to achieve our goals. Personal empowerment also means being aware that other people have their own set of values and goals which may different to ours.

Many other, more detailed, definitions exist. These usually centre on the idea that personal empowerment gives an individual the ability to:

  • Take control of their circumstances and achieve their own goals in their personal and working life.
  • Become more aware of their strengths and weaknesses and therefore be better equipped to deal with problems and achieve goals.
  • Enhance the contribution they make both as an individual and as a member of a team.
  • Take opportunities to enhance personal growth and a sense of fulfilment.
Developing personal empowerment usually involves making some fundamental changes in life, which is not always an easy process.  The degree of change required will differ from person to person, depending on the individual starting point.

Building  Healthy Relationships

8/14/2014

Communication is a key part to building a healthy relationship. The first step is making sure you both want and expect the same things -- being on the same page is very important. The following tips can help you create and maintain a healthy relationship:
  • Speak Up. In a healthy relationship, if something is bothering you, it’s best to talk about it instead of holding it in.
  • Respect Your Partner. Your partner's wishes and feelings have value. Let your significant other know you are making an effort to keep their ideas in mind. Mutual respect is essential in maintaining healthy relationships.
  • Compromise. Disagreements are a natural part of healthy relationships, but it’s important that you find a way to compromise if you disagree on something. Try to solve conflicts in a fair and rational way.
  • Be Supportive. Offer reassurance and encouragement to your partner. Also, let your partner know when you need their support. Healthy relationships are about building each other up, not putting each other down.
  • Respect Each Other’s Privacy. Just because you’re in a relationship, doesn’t mean you have to share everything and constantly be together. Healthy relationships require space.
