Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.
The most beautiful way I've heard love described is found in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (my absolute favorite scripture). Most people that read or have heard this verse think it only applies to a marriage. That is not true. It applies to every relationship. This is the love that God has for us, and the type of love that he wants us to have for each other. Jackie DeShannon said it best when she wrote the song "What the world needs now is love". She's right, there's just too little of it. Can you image what kind of world we would be living in if everyone loved the way we're supposed to love?
Regardless of our differences, our beliefs, our political views, or our opinions on life itself we should all love the way God intended. To be patient with one another. To be kind. To not be jealous of one another, or not be proud or pompous. To not be rude, or selfish. To not get so worked up about nothing. To not hold grudges. To not indulge in doing people wrong, starting rumors, and just be honest!! Protect each other, trust each other, hope in one another, and fight for the greater good in one another. We would never give up on each other. What a world this would be!
True love is not just found in fairy tales and romance novels. It's found in our hearts. We just have to be willing to dig deep to reveal it. Most people have been hurt so much that they have buried true love so far down into an emotional abyss to never be found again. At least that's what they want you to think. When you get into the heart of someone you find out who they really are, and you can love them the way they need to be loved. The way God loves.
